Principles of Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Principles of Marketing - Essay Example It is irrefutable that this principle also changes the role and function of marketing managers in the business organization. Marketing management is defined as the "analysis, planning, implementation, and control of programs designed to create, build, and maintain beneficial exchanges with target buyers for the purpose of achieving organizational objectives (Kotler & Armstrong 2001, p.14)." Truly, the business arena has evolved from placing emphasis on production, product improvements, and selling approaches and started to focus on customers. Marketing management functions now covers how a company can create and extend more valuable goods and services to each customer. This paper will look at the evolution of different philosophies which relates to marketing. In order to fully offer insight regarding the difference of marketing concepts to other competing thoughts, the five main concepts namely, production concept, product concept, selling concept, marketing concept, customer concept, and societal marketing concept will be briefly defined and discussed. Lastly, this paper will also expound why organizations should focus on applying the marketing concept on their operations. The marketing concept holds that "achieving organiza... The marketing concept rests on four pillars namely, target market, customer needs, integrated marketing and profitability. Companies capitalizing on marketing concept first define a specific target market as an aim. This helps them to tailor a specific marketing which appeals to the target market. In order to become effective, marketers should be able to know their customers' needs. Though this task can be daunting as customer needs are often unexpressed and is hard to define, the marketing concept strongly advises companies to know their customers in order to come up with products that deliver superior value. Integrated marketing means that all the departments of the firm work together to serve the interest of the customer. This transfers the responsibility of the marketing department to all the functional areas. Marketing concept holds that marketing is a responsibility and must be embraced by all employees because everything they do has a corresponding impact to the customer. (Kot ler 2003). Marketing, aside from satisfying customers, should also help business organizations reach their goal of profitability. As to be discussed in the below, the main difference of the marketing concept to other philosophies is its employment of an outside-in perspective. The marketing concept "starts with a well defined market, focuses on customer needs, coordinates all activities that will affect customers, and produces profits by satisfying customer needs" (Kotler 2003, p. 20). The Production Concept The production concept is recognized as one of the oldest philosophies employed in business operations. This concept holds that "consumers will prefer products that are

Training- Developing People - Essay Example Being realistic, corporate attitudes and expectations about what 'training' is and does cannot be changed overnight, and most organisations still see 'training' as being limited to work skills, classrooms and powerpoint presentations. Getting tough on Crime (Canadian Society) Essay

Getting tough on Crime (Canadian Society) - Essay Example From the research it is clear that many people believe that fighting fire with fire is the only suitable way for crime to be reduced. Others strongly disagree with this assumption. Around the world, today, many cases have been on the rise as to the extent police have used excess force to deal with criminals. As much as the criminals seem to have it coming, many people still insist that they need to be tried and judged fairly in a court of law. This means that even in the judicial system, they have to be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to be locked up. What certain policies being implemented aim at achieving is ridding the streets of criminals and crimes completely. There have been some that advocate the locking up of criminals for a minimum of ten years for certain crimes. These policies are the cause of concern among many. These cases have seen the call for the re-evaluation of the policies due to the deteriorating state crime fighting is facing. This paper will review the a pproaches that have been used to handle crime and if indeed they are working. In society, today, there are many assumptions about crime. They often come about due to the various factors present. These factors could include; the media, which include both print and electronic, stereotypes, cultural and ethnic differences among other things that are present in any society. These factors together bring about a common fear for certain things or people and, therefore, the dominant assumptions about crime. ... Media coverage has been to blame for the recent rise in crime. However, societies like the Canadian society do not believe that the media has played any role in the rise of crime. They believe that crime is real, and this has nothing to do with the coverage the media has given acts of crime over time (Department of Justice, 2011). Another assumption usually placed on crime would be that crimes committed are of different levels. In Canada, they place crimes against children at the top of the most important crimes. This is closely followed by crimes that are the gang and youth related and finally, violence against women (Department of Justice, 2011). This assumption could mean that if a person is guilty of a crime against the above mentioned they are liable for a greater or harsher punishment. It would greater than when they would have done it against a young man or a mature male. Canada has decided to take the tough approach with crime and criminals. Policies have been made, and bills have been passed to ensure that criminals, once brought to book, bear the full brunt of the law. The judicial system has been mandated to penalise all those of different crimes with longer jail sentences. The reason, it seems, is to bring the law abiding citizen some peace. The assumption that when a criminal gets off easy after being arrested then, the law-abiding citizen is angered by it. They think that the law is coddling the wrongdoers (European Association of Psychology and Law, 2011). Sentences have been extended for those caught by the law. This is even for the smallest crimes imaginable. According to the policy makers, there is no little crime. A crime is a crime, and once the law has been broken, it is in

Anatomy shsort answer discussions - Assignment Example For this reason, lymphatic capillaries assist in the immune system while the lower permeability of blood capillaries helps maintain blood pressure during circulation. In addition, nodes interrupt lymph capillaries while blood capillaries are not. This allows for continuous blood flow while filtration occurs in the lymphatic system (Zuther, 2011). The central nervous controls the intake of oxygen and expulsion of carbon dioxide from the body while regulating respiration. This is through initiating breathing and maintaining it in order to remove harmful carbon dioxide produced by metabolic functions. This process occurs through sensitivity of chemoreceptors that detect chemical substances in the body and relay the information to the respiratory control center. The other system that controls the rate of respiration is the acidity tracking system in the body. This tracks the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood leading to a rise in acidity causing an increase in respiration that retains pH balance (Hendrickson, 2011). Defense mechanisms also regulate respiratory levels through epinephrine and its effects. This is concerning preparing the body for fight or flight where the heart rate increases and decreases respectively (Hendrickson,

Contemporary Issues Concerning Security Issues as A Profession Assignment

Contemporary Issues Concerning Security Issues as A Profession - Assignment Example Rather, it is said that liberalism thrives on the wings of security rather than liberty and that if the people are guaranteed of their security, they can champion the possibility of liberalism. The second issue, on the other hand, happens to be a more tangible and practical phenomenon that happens to be with us as a people on a constant basis. This is the issue of natural disasters and how the country has often been taken unawares by the magnitude and breadth of these natural disasters. In the news item, there is a reflection on one of the major hurricanes that was recorded in the history of the United States and this was Hurricane Katrina. Generally, there are questions about the role that the security professional can play in risk mitigation associated with such natural disasters. Arguing that the mere identification of the disasters and the warning of citizens to stay off are not enough, detailed remarks are given on how the issue impacts security operations and how it can be handled well in future. On the issue of balance between liberty and security, there can be several implications drawn on the impact that it has on security operations, though this contemporary issue is highly academic. In the first place, the vivid realization that the very liberties and freedoms of the people rest with the degree of security they have implies that security operations hold, and is responsible for the fundamental protection of the practice of liberalism in the country. If this is so, then there is the need to equip the security forces, and for that matter the security professional with adequate contingency preparations that will ensure that they are able to give maximum protection to the liberties of the collective people of the country. By this, an advocacy for people-centered security operations is admonished.

The three stages of Law Enforcement in Texas (State, Local, and Essay

The three stages of Law Enforcement in Texas (State, Local, and Federal) - Essay Example The Constitution allows that the state can come up with any laws they wish, provided they do not violate the constitution. Federal organization normally works within the jurisdiction, which is within the limits of a given country. Federal law enforcement agency may not enforce the law within the smaller jurisdiction, such as a state, as well as, a country, though they can help other organizations by giving out information to them. As a common rule, federal law enforcement organization have the mandate to act when federal laws are not adhered, the federal asset is involved, or when the federal law gives federal agents own mandate to act in a specific legal area or field. At the same time, it is possible for federal organization to enforce state or local laws. They, therefore, exercise their mandate everywhere in the United States when need arises. The responsibilities of federal agency differ from one country to another. These tasks include the response to policing of airports, fraud against the country, the protection of designated national infrastructure, immigration as well as border control regarding individuals and assets, the investigation of currency counterfeiting, national security and guarding the country’s head of state, as well as, other significant dignitaries.... They do not implement their jurisdiction at divisional level. However, they can exercise this when exceptional arrangements between federal and divisional governing bodies are organized. An example of such a federal organization is the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Another body is the Federal Protective Service (FPS), which is one of the organizations found in the U.S. Division of Homeland Security. The Division is responsible for law enforcement and the security of about 9,000 federal owned buildings, courthouses and assets. The FPS is deployed for national security events on terrorist attacks, as well as, natural disaster management in the U.S. The U.S. has a well-organized system of law enforcement, and it is reflected in its federal organizations. Federal agencies normally enforce laws that lie within their jurisdictions and areas of duty; therefore, they have limited police tasks. This means certain federal agencies deal with crimes, no matter the place they have occurr ed. For instance, the FBI that has its own primary investigative functions deal with kidnapping cases in the U.S. The agency is the largest of all federal law enforcement organizations (Carter 116). The agency has divided its investigation into several programs, which include domestic and international terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, public corruption, civil right, cyber, organized crime drugs, white-collar crime, applicant matters and violent crimes. A good number of FBI findings are carried out in collaboration with several other law enforcement agencies. The FBI has always believed that working with other agencies is the main tool for effective law enforcement. They usually cooperate and work

Military Intervention and Human Rights Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Military Intervention and Human Rights - Essay Example However, a general consensus has been developed about the basic idea behind humanitarian intervention; Humanitarian intervention is essentially an armed effort in which a state or a group of states intervene in the internal affairs of another state and it often involves the violation of international borders or airspace of that particular state. Moreover, the state against which the humanitarian intervention is being conducted does not necessarily pose a threat to the peace or security of other states therefore the military action is taken solely on humanitarian grounds for the protection of human rights. Humanitarian intervention is a matter of great debate today because it involves two of the fundamental pillars of the United Nations system; one of them being state sovereignty and other is the protection of human rights; and unfortunately the scenario of a humanitarian intervention involves dealing with very complex circumstances in which one of the two pillars mentioned have to be compromised for the greater good (Jokic, 2003). The proponents of humanitarian intervention argue that it is imperative in certain circumstances to conduct military operations in states where the people are being opressed by the government, particularly in states which are ruled by dictators because in such states the change of government is not possible without intervention from outside. However, the critics of humanitarian intervention argue that it can be used as a pretext for a military action for the achievement of the vested interests of strong actors in the international political scenario. The issue of humanitarian intervention is also important because of the fact that there are a large number of lives associated with a military action taken against a state. In this paper an analysis based on the scenarios in various countries various military interventio
